Why the Communist Party?
Throughout the past decades, there have been many moments in which we have witnessed the rapid growth of class struggle – manifested in strikes, demonstrations, occupations, and many other forms.
Sometimes this struggle has been accompanied by a sharpened anticapitalist analysis. However, throughout most of the post-WW2 period of capitalist expansion the fightback has not been able to develop beyond a protest movement, even when mobilizations have been large and well-organized.

Sometimes this struggle has been accompanied by a sharpened anticapitalist analysis. However, throughout most of the post-WW2 period of capitalist expansion the fightback has not been able to develop beyond a protest movement, even when mobilizations have been large and well-organized.
Simply put, these “spontaneous” struggles will always be limited in their effectiveness – and will always have to be repeated – if they are not connected to a unified movement that is oriented toward defeating capitalism.
The Critical Role of the Communist Party
The working class needs to find a clear path between the struggle for immediate reforms and the overall struggle for revolution. Otherwise, we will be stuck in a defensive struggle that we must regenerate and rebuild time and time again. This is particularly important in the current conditions of austerity policies and deepening capitalist crisis.
No other political party or movement is positioned to provide the clear leadership necessary to find such a path.
History of Struggle in Canada
The Communist Party has nine decades of experience in organizing, building and helping to lead the most progressive components of the labour and social movements: trade unions, Aboriginal solidarity, peace, women’s equality, LGBTQ rights, anti-racism, national equality in Canada, students, anti-poverty, fair taxation, electoral reform, farmers…
Program
The aim of the Communist Party of Canada is to establish a socialist society in Canada. The party stands for the victory of socialism throughout the world. But these objectives cannot be achieved, or even pursued, without a strong program.
Our program, “Canada’s Future is Socialism!”, is based on our party’s collective experience in decades of struggle in all of the key progressive movements in Canada, as well as on our internationalism. It provides a clear tactic for building the struggle for socialism.
Organization
The Communist Party seeks to unite all people who have come to the conviction that revolutionary change is necessary.
The party is a Marxist-Leninist organization. It is democratic – promoting the maximum discussion on policies and tactics – and it is centralist – carrying out decisions and campaigns in a united manner.
The Communist Party is also internationalist, connected to Communist Parties throughout the world and committed to international, anti-imperialist, working-class solidarity.
