IWD 2025: Unite and fight for equality, peace, and progress!

The Communist Party salutes the heroic women of Palestine, Cuba, the Indigenous nations within Canada, and all nations resisting imperialism.

Women’s strong voices and united action with labour and working people have led to major gains for women, children, and workers. Today, they are needed more than ever to stop the drive to nuclear war and environmental catastrophe, and to fight back against the rise of the far-right and fascism, fueled by the biggest and most powerful corporate interests.

Congratulations to women across the country and around the world who are fighting for the full equality of women, for global peace and disarmament, for universal social and economic justice, for environmental survival, sovereignty, and socialism.

No to War and No to Trump!

Parliament must say NO to war and military spending and NO to Trump’s grab for Canada’s resources, markets, and sovereignty.

We demand:

  • Double corporate taxes, collect unpaid corporate taxes, and abolish the GST/HST.
  • Withdraw from the USMCA free trade deal.
  • Slash military spending by 75% and get out of NATO & NORAD.
  • Unity Can Win New Gains for Women!
  • The unity of the women’s movement with labour, democratic movements, youth, seniors, Black and Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and the growing number of unemployed can defeat the right-wing agenda and win real advances for women, including:
  • Universally accessible, quality, public, and free childcare.
  • Publicly funded, fully accessible abortion services and reproductive healthcare.
  • A $25 minimum wage and a guaranteed annual livable income.
  • Increased public pensions at age 60.
  • Expanded Employment Insurance to cover all unemployed workers at 90% of previous earnings, and one year of paid parental leave.
  • Free post-secondary education and the abolition of student debt.
  • Universal pay and employment equity in every workplace.
  • Fully funded Medicare, expanded to include vision, dental, mental health care, long-term care, and pharmacare.
  • The construction of 2 million units of public and social housing, with rents capped at 20% of income.
  • Legislation to roll back and freeze prices on food, fuel, and housing.
  • Implementation of the Calls to Action from the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

These and other urgently needed government actions could easily be paid for by raising corporate taxes on record-breaking corporate profits of $577 billion in 2023, collecting the $111.2 billion in unpaid corporate taxes from 2014-2018, and cracking down on the billions hidden in tax havens.

2025: A Year of Struggle and Resistance

This year will bring hard struggles for women and working people across Canada, as Trump’s policies accelerate job losses, recession, militarism, and privatization while escalating threats to Canada’s sovereignty and global aggression in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and China.

The unity of the labour and democratic movements, the women’s movement, and all those opposed to the corporate agenda of Trump and his Conservative allies in Canada is the key to stopping this disaster and fighting for an alternative that puts people and the planet before profits and war.

People and the Planet Before Profits and War!
